I was originally supposed to photograph the birth, but they ended up having a C-Section sans fotografia.  It was really sweet to be with them in the first 24 hours. 

Alana Lawton: Arrows & Honor Tattoo Studio

I was asked by my friend and tattoo artist Alana Lawton to photograph her new, 100% self-run tattoo parlor that she just opened!  Previously with Hartford County Tattoo in Bristol, CT, Alana has done some of my favorite work on my body in the last few years.  

Here's what always happens with her: you come in with your idea, with a good sense of what you want.  Then over the course of your time with her, she'll ask you almost exactly 100 questions about what you'd want your tattoo to look like.  little things, like the shade of brown for a branch, or the thickness of the line across your wrist.  

she's the most detail-oriented, mindful tattoo artist i've ever had the pleasure to spend time with.  It's clear that she spends a great amount of time not only sharing her creativity permanently, but holding herself up to an ever-increasing self-standard of how great her contribution can be.

This was kind of funny and magical at the same time.



i like this one.  Reminds me for a second of the ballroom scene in "Labyrinth" when Jennifer Connelly eats a poisoned peach and ends up dancing with Jareth.  Except there were no venetian masks, and David Bowie was definitely not there.  And i didn't have to break any glass in order to leave. And i wasn't on drugs.  Classic.

Went to New York to meet some of Ross' friends, and stayed up way beyond turning into a pumpkin.



Once i got back from NYC, i promptly enjoyed my first Hibachi with some good friends.

I got blown off tonight! At least i brought home a picture like this. He was part of a big group of people playing Ultimate Frisbee at Elizabeth Park, Hartford, CT.

Photographed the Coast Guard Academy graduation yesterday. I wanted this shot as soon as i got there.

Had a day off today and ended up in Elizabeth Park. I like the slideshow that came of it...

Was commissioned by CPTV to photograph their Family Science Expo. This was a favorite from the day.

Jane Curtin was gracious enough to let me do a portrait with her glasses off and her eyes closed.  She said, smiling,  "You're not shooting up my nose, are you?" 




This was the baby next to me on the plane ride to Denver.

Two local DJs need photos for their new event fliers, so we worked with what we had, and i fell in love with a black light for the night.

Took a weekend trip to Troy, NY to see Leo Kottke with a few good friends. This is Brother Jon's bullhead (unnamed) fish, and my favorite shot from the day.

I would like to join the rank of Preston Gannaway Cheerleaders, in congratulating her on her Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography!!!

Her award-winning coverage of a family dealing with a mother's terminal illness is truly a moving work of art. Check her out, sift through her work, take your time. It's an honor to know her, and so many people in this field, who inspire you to raise your own bar over and over again.

My best friend Fil (Phil) had his "alien" removed recently. He used herbal remedies (read: should be legal remedies) instead of the prescribed pain meds to cope with the pain afterwards.
